The German Shorthaired Pointer in our minds is the most versatile field dog; pointing, retrieving on land and in water, working close or patterning acres at a time to find those sometimes elusive birds in Eastern Montana.
Big Sky Bird Dogs is an exclusive small specialized breeder focusing on a maximum of one litter per year, primarily as additions to our own hunting dogs and for close friends. Our dogs are registered with AKC and we are members of the GSPCA, Montana German Shorthaired Pointer Club and Glacier Gun Dogs. Located in the best of the Big Sky Country; Big Fork, Montana, our dogs have 1000’s of acres to work as well as numerous rivers and lakes. Local birds include; Pheasants, Grouse, Huns and Dove as well as Chukkars which we raise for training. It’s hard to imagine a better location than Montana for raising bird dogs except maybe South Dakota. Our dogs are bred to provide superior hunting instincts, drive and endurance to help make you successful in the field yet revert to your calm family lap dog at the end of the day and the off season. Many GSP’s can be high strung and are typically “outside only” dogs, we worked diligently to develop family dogs that are calm and social yet still possess the highest hunting skills. Big Sky Bird Dogs searched long and hard to find our foundation female India’s Jet Black Bird Magnet “Jet”; a solid black 55 pound GSP dynamo (out of Nickel Creek Gun Dogs). She can out hunt most of the boys and has a personality second to none. Jet has hunted and competed all over Montana and bagged more than her share of birds.
We take pride in developing and providing only the finest GSP’s, we are the furthest thing from a puppy mill as these dogs are our family members. The GSP puppies for sale at Big Sky Bird Dogs are very limited due to the nature of our operation and desire to produce such high quality dogs. Solid Black and Solid Liver German Shorthaired Pointers are fairly rare (they originated with breeding from Prussia to strengthen the breed) and very few have our pedigrees and none the personality. NEWS FLASH! Jet’s sire “Indy” will be featured this summer on American Gun Dog with Harley Jackson on the Outdoor Channel. This episode will exclusively feature the hunting skills of solid black German Shorthaired Pointers out of Nickel Creek Gun Dogs. Filming is set to begin soon and this will surely increase the demand for our puppies, especially the solid black and liver.
UPDATE! The first filming was so successful these solid black GSP’s have been invited to Utah to film another American Gun Dog segment.
