Big Sky Bird Dogs is a dedicated small breeder focusing on the most well rounded German Shorthaired Pointers in the country. Starting with Jet our solid black GSP female as our foundation for successful, enduring hunters that are as comfortable in the field as they are next to the fireplace in your home. Incredible temperaments, smart, eager to please and soft to train, I seldom use an E-collar when working her. As an example of her dedication in the field; opening day this season (Montana Pheasant 2008) Jet in the early dawn pointed a couple runners and while tracking got caught up in barbed wire. Other than hearing a short yelp that morning you would not know that anything was wrong, she continued to hunt unfazed for 2 1/2 hours before we loaded up and only then did I notice she had a serious gash on her left front leg that required 5 staples, she would have hunted all day. When not hunting she lives inside with us and is really another member of the family, calm, well mannered and always ready for the shotgun and vest to come out.
Big Sky Bird Dogs believes that a solid pedigree is important, equally so are temperament, personality as well as solid training and experience. Our puppies are emerged at day 3 in the Bio-Sensor Program (Super Dog Program established by the military) to enhance development of their neurological system giving them a head start on the rest of the pack and providing a less stressed better adapted dog going forward. All dogs live indoors with us (no kennel environment here) and are socialized early with kids, adults and other animals (dogs, horses) to ensure a well rounded adult. Puppies sleep and are worked with pheasant wings early to ensure that strong desire is there. We feed only the best dog food, currently Eukanuba Sporting and Omega 3 supplements to ensure healthy dogs.
In addition to the availability of a small number of German Shorthaired Pointer puppies for sale each year we also provide early stage training; from basic obedience, house breaking and crate training to started puppies ready for the next seasons hunt.
More on the “Bio Sensor” or “Super Dog” program. Established research has shown that heritable (pedigree/breeding) performance and intelligence represents only 35% of a dogs makeup, meaning that 65% of a dogs performance and ability is generated by external factors such as training, management and nutrition. The U.S. Military developed the “Bio Sensor” program to take advantage of this 65% through the development of early neurological stimulation, providing the dog with a superior advantage.
